HMS BULLDOG MID WW2 Medal Group 1939/45 Star, Atlantic Star, Africa Star (NORTH AFRICA 1942-43), Burma Star, War Medal with M.I.D. Oakleaf Emblem, Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (GVIR). With Original Mentioned In Despatches Certificate.

This group is to a Petty Officer who rose to Commissioned Officer. The LSGC named to; LX. 20414. W. A. SHERMAN. P. O. STD. H.M.S. BULLDOG.

Mention In Despatches Certificate to Petty Officer Steward William Alfred Sherman, London Gazette 2nd June 1943 pp 2449.

With this medal group are also his Miniatures group, mounted for wear, includes M.I.D. emblem. A Framed photograph of Lieutenant Sherman in uniform with 4 pages of a personal letter from him to his wife and a letter from The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Royal Navy to the M.P. for Southampton.

The letter from Mr Frank Judd, The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Royal Navy, to the Southampton M.P. Mr R. C. Mitchell dated February 1975. This letter is a response from Mitchell confirming that the bereaved family of Lieutenant Sherman are entitled to a Gun-Carriage, Crew, Bugler and Bearers for his funeral and that he is also entitled to a burial at sea if the family so wishes. 

The 4 pages of hand-written letter is from Lt Sherman to his wife. It is from Gibraltar 25th February 1937 to her at 92 Copnor Road, Copnor, Portsmouth. The letter is a moving and personal letter.
