January Purchases 2019

The start of 2019 has been very positive. We have made some very good purchases ranging from private individual purchases which have come directly from the family and we have also bought 2 medal collections from long-standing collectors wanting to raise funds for new projects.

King's Police medal for Gallantry

One of our most important purchases is that of a King’s Police medal for Gallantry awarded to a Metropolitan Police Constable who arrested a murderer of a young Jamaican Royal Air Force airman. Norman Strange arrested the South Wales Borderer fugitive having been shot and and his colleague blinded by gunshot.

We also bought a very fine and scarce Victorian Medal to a crew member of what is considered to be the first boat of the Canadian Navy The Rescue. The Canada Medal with Fenian Raids clasp was issued to the recipient of the Toronto Naval Brigade. This is one of circa 40 medals ever issues to this unit on the medal l roll. Research will continue into the recipient who was Canadian born then moved across the border into the USA.
